- The Chiastic
Structure and Meaning of Paul's Letter to Philemon, Biblica 82
(2001): 178-206 (John Paul HEIL) Biblica abstract: "This
article proposes a new chiastic structure for Paul's letter to Philemon
based on rigorous criteria and methodology. The center and pivot of the
chiasm, ... (v. 14), is a key to explicating the letter's supposedly
unclear purpose. Paul wants Philemon to give his former slave Onesimus back
to Paul as a beloved brother and fellow worker for the gospel of Jesus
Christ, because of Philemon's response to the grace of God evident in his
faithful love for the holy ones as a beloved brother and fellow worker of
Paul."

These pages use Unicode UTF-8 encoding;
most Greek text is now in Unicode format, though some remnants of the older,
non-standard Galilee encoding remain. You should not have difficulties viewing
this material if you have a relatively current web browser and a font that
contains polytonic Greek. Certain disclaimers apply. Please note that I am
unable to serve as a Q & A resource. As my schedule permits, I will attempt to
answer questions related specifically to my own writings posted on this site,
but I cannot answer general Bible or Greek questions from anyone who is curious.
